Shillong, Sep 18: M Khairul Jamal Majumdar (pictured), more commonly known as Mamon Majumdar, has been elected once again as an IPL Governing Council Member for 2026-27.
The election was held during the 95th Annual General Meeting of the BCCI in Mumbai today.
Majumdar has been instrumental in developing cricket in Mizoram as well as being a supporter of the effort of other states in promoting the game.
IPL 2027 is especially significant as it is the 20th anniversary of the mega franchise-based cricket tournament, which led to the massive expansion of T20 cricket throughout the world.
Majumdar and Arun Singh Dhumal were two General Body members to be elected and inducted into the IPL’s Governing Council.
It was also decided at the AGM that domestic cricket umpires and match referees should get a pay rise, though by how much was not announced.
The General Body discussed with the state units measures to support disabled cricketers, including appropriate facilities and resources to promote their development and progress.
The Meghalaya Cricket Association was not part of the AGM, undoubtedly because of its ongoing internal troubles.
