Shillong, Sep 20: Meghalaya were unable to progress to the quarterfinals of the U-17 boys’ Subroto Cup 2026 despite beating Andaman & Nicobar Islands 5-0 in their last Pool A fixture in New Delhi yesterday.
Jonathan Kharbani scored four goals, while Steningbor Thongni provided one.
Only the top team from each pool will progress to the quarterfinals. Meghalaya opened the tournament with an 8-0 victory over Uttar Pradesh but then lost 2-1 to CBSE and then drew 1-1 with Delhi. CBSE topped the pool and moved to the quarters with a full 12 points from four games.
The state is being represented by OM Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School of Shillong, who won the state-level competition in July.
This brings an end to Meghalaya’s participation in the Subroto Cup for this year. The U-15 boys, represented by North Liberty HSS of Jowai, were also unable to progress to the knockout round.
The most successful team was the U-17 girls’ side, Little Star HSS of Mairang. They did reach the QFs but lost to an NCC team from Mizoram.
