Shillong, Sep 26: Jakrem will competed in the second division of the Indian Women’s League (IWL 2), the All India Football Federation has confirmed.
Jakrem have been slotted into Group C for the upcoming season, which is expected to start on 23rd October.
Groups C and D have four teams each while A and B have five each. Jakrem are joined by the AIFF TDS Academy, Kemp FC and Mumbai Knights FC in their group.
The four group winners and two best second-placed teams will progress to the final round, which will begin on 25th November. The venues have not been confirmed.
Jakrem qualified for IWL 2 by winning the inaugural edition of the Meghalaya Women’s State League last year.
Although this is a club-based league, the Meghalaya football authorities are likely to consider the IWL 2 as a preparation ground for the state’s participation in next year’s 39th National Games, which Meghalaya will host.
