Shillong, Sep 29: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) announced today that Shillong has been selected as a venue for the first round of the Second Division of the Indian Women’s League 2026-27 (IWL 2).
Group C matches will be held at the SSA Stadium in Polo here next month, with Jakrem FC, who were champions of the inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025, to feature in the event for the first time.
No club from Meghalaya has ever been in the IWL or IWL 2, though the erstwhile Royal Wahingdoh were invited to take part in the qualifiers of the IWL’s first edition in 2026-17. However, they were unable to progress to the main competition after losing all four of their matches.
With the institution of a dedicated statewide women’s league by the MFA last year, Jakrem became eligible for this season’s IWL 2.
Jakrem will be joined by the All India Football Federation’s TDS Academy, Kemp FC and Mumbai Knights FC in Group C.
The four group winners and two best second-placed teams will progress to the final round, which will begin in November.
Although it is a club-based league, the MFA will utilise the IWL 2 as a preparation ground for the state’s participation in next year’s 39th National Games, which Meghalaya will host.
