Shillong, Oct 16: Shillong Lajong defeated Sikkim Aakraman SC 5-2 in the final of the 42nd Governor’s Gold Cup in Sikkim this evening.
Lajong scored twice in the first half to lead 2-0 at the break before adding three in the second half, along with two from the local team.
The match was played at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. Lajong fielded their senior team in this tournament, making it useful preparation ahead of the Indian Football League 2026-27.
Lajong had defeated Singling SC, another Sikkim-based team, in the semifinals 5-4 on penalties a few days ago.
Individual awards were also presented at the prize distribution ceremony. Lajong’s Ranit Sarkar was honoured with the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper and Kenstar Kharshong was named Player of the Tournament.
