Shillong, Oct 18: Nongkseh will meet Meghalaya Police in a third momentous match in under 12 months when they clash on Monday in the final of the SSA Super Cup 2026. Kick-off at the SSA Stadium will be at 5:30PM.
Both teams qualified for the Super Cup by finishing in the Top 6 of the Shillong Premier League 2026, with Nongkseh third and MLP fifth. They went through the playoffs and won their fierce semifinals to set up a meeting in the final.
Nongkseh first ran up against Sawmer in the playoffs and were twice behind in the game before imposing their will to win 4-2. Then, in the semis, they took on SPL 2026 champions Mawlai and defeated them 1-0.
MLP have arguably had a more impressive run. The police first faced Langsning in the playoffs, went behind in the first half but equalised in the second and took the game to penalties where they held their nerve to win 5-4. If that was impressive, they served up an even more determined performance to beat Shillong Lajong (the SPL 2026 runners-up and Super Cup 2025 champions) 1-0.
Nongkseh, though, have had the better of MLP in recent meetings.
A year ago both sides were in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2025. They met in the last match of the season in what was the title decider and Nongkseh took the title 1-0. Then, in the SPL this year, Nongkseh were on a three-game winless streak before they met MLP. The pressure was on the former to get their campaign back on track and they responded brilliantly to thrash the police 7-1.
MLP have had an exhausting run to the final but having taken down Langsning and Lajong, they must be absolutely buzzing with confidence. Nongkseh, meanwhile, are not going to be easy opposition, especially with a chance to win some more silverware. Fans can expect a terrific battle and new champions of the Super Cup will be crowned at the end of the evening’s entertainment.
