Shillong, Oct 19: Nongrim Hills will be relegated to next season’s Second Division after losing their season-ending Shillong Sports Association First Division 2026 match 5-1 to Mawtawar today.
The other match in the Relegation Zone, a dead rubber, saw Ryntih beat Laitkyrhong 5-4.
Mawtawar and Nongrim Hills were both tied on 3 points each before today, with the former having the better goal difference (+5 to +4). Mawtawar thus needed only a draw to be safe from relegation, while Nongrim Hills needed to win.
That didn’t come to pass, however, as Mawtawar won convincingly, with goals by Pynkhlainbok Wahlang (42′), Fedrick Lyngdoh (47′, 86′), Nehemaiah Warbah (89′) and Damanlang Kharbangar (90’+3). Nongrim Hills’ only goal was via Pyrkhat Janai Kharkongor (63′).
In the other match, there was only pride for Ryntih as it was already confirmed before today that they would be relegated, having lost to Nongrim Hills and Mawtawar previously. Similarly, Laitkyrhong were already assured of safety having won their first two matches.
Dawandapbiang Pathaw (10′, 33′, 38′) scored a hat-trick in the first half for Ryntih, with the two other goals coming from Bashem Kurkalang (14′) and Banroi Kharkongor (89′). Laitkyrhong’s scorers were Bisharlang Mawthoh (35′, 62′) and Ribokstar Rynjah (62′). There was also a 40th minute own goal by Ryntih.
