Shillong, Oct 29: Meghalaya defeated Manipur by 3 runs to win their second Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2026-27 plate group match in Sovima, Nagaland, today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Meghalaya put up 103/5 and then restricted Manipur to 100/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Meghalaya had defeated Arunachal Pradesh on Monday before losing off the last ball in a very close encounter with Bihar on Tuesday.
Manipur bowled well in the first half of Meghalaya’s innings to reduce them to 37/4 in 9 overs but a middle order fight back was led by the trio of Neha Hajong (24), Daiaka Warjri (29 not out) and Inda Kharwanniang (21 not out).
Neha’s innings was an anchor and she faced 35 deliveries for her 24 runs. When she fell Meghalaya were 60/5 in 15 overs, exactly 4 runs an over. However, Daiaka and Inda pressed the accelerator at this point to make 43 in the remaining 5 overs (run rate 8.6). Both scored at more than a run a ball, with Daiaka making her unbeaten 29 from 27 balls and Inda her 21 from 16.
In the chase, opener Loidangton Thokchom played a crucial innings of 37 from 46 deliveries but Meghalaya kept chipping away with wickets at the other end while also being economical.
Debasmita Dutta returned the best figures of 2/12 and Ajima Sangma was not too far behind with 2/17. Neha took 1/11 and also effected a run out – added to her batting performance, she was judged to be the Player of the Match.
Meghalaya’s next game will come on Saturday against hosts Nagaland.
