Shillong, Nov 6: Shillong Lajong FC are gearing up for their first home fixture of the Indian Football League (IFL) 2026-27 season as they prepare to take on Chanmari FC at the SSA Stadium here on Friday. Kick-off will be at 6:30PM.
The Reds head into the fixture on the back of an encouraging 1-0 away victory against Mohammedan Sporting in their opening match of the campaign. With 3 valuable points already secured, Lajong will be looking to carry that momentum into their home campaign and continue their positive start to the season in front of their passionate supporters.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, SLFC coach Birendra Thapa expressed his satisfaction with the team’s opening result and optimism ahead of the upcoming fixture.
The coach acknowledged the quality of Mizoram-based Chanmari, describing them as a strong side this season, particularly with their new foreign signings and experienced players. This will be Chanmari’s first match of the season as they were not involved in Round 1.
Thapa emphasised that Lajong will have to remain focused and deliver a disciplined performance against competitive opponents.
Also speaking at the press conference was Brazilian forward Jota, who will face his former
club Chanmari FC. Jota expressed his excitement about the upcoming encounter, acknowledging the special feeling of playing against a club he previously represented. However, he made it clear that his focus remains firmly on Lajong, promising to give his 100% to help the team secure all 3 points.
SLFC and Chanmari met twice during the 2025-26 IFL, with Lajong winning both encounters.
The match will be telecast live on Unite8 Sports and the Doordarshan Sports Network, with live streaming available on the Waves and Z5 OTT platforms, as well as the Unite8 YouTube Channel.
