Shillong, Mar 28: Sputnik CC defeated Nongmensong CC by two wickets in the first semifinal of the Shillong Cricket League Super Division 2024-25 here today.
Nongmensong (the Group A toppers) won the toss and chose to bat first but could only manage 212/7 in their allotted 45 overs. Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva hit 50 from 69 deliveries, while Raghav contributed a run-a-ball 30. Sputnik’s Gurinder Singh returned figures of 3/31 in 9 overs and Md Nafees Siddique 2/49 in 9.
In reply, Sputnik (the Group B runners-up), lost eight wickets but crossed the target in 43.2 overs. Arien Bonchang Sangma (61 from 108 balls) and Swarajeet Das (44 from 54) turned in match-winning performances but it was Gurinder (pictured left) who was named Player of the Match for setting up the victory with a terrific spell of bowling.
For Nongmensong, Himan Phukan (2/32 in 9) and Anish Charak (2/32 in 8.2) were the most successful bowlers today.
The second semifinal, between Rangkynsai CC (Group B toppers) against Royal CC (Group A runners-up), will take place tomorrow.
