Shillong, Aug 31: A new Grassroots Football Centre was inaugurated at Umlyngsha village on 29th August, which was celebrated around the country as National Sports Day.

The GFC was established under the state government’s Mission Football initiative. Led by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Mission Football aims to provide structured training to children between 6 and 12 years old, nurturing talent and strengthening the future of football in Meghalaya.

The programme was held in the presence of Khliehriat MLA and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla, East Jaintia Hills District Sports Officer Stephanie Rapsang, Umlyngsha Waheh Shnong Namphrangmi L Talang, Umlyngsha village Secretary Seiborlang Syrti, East Jaintia Hills District Football Association Working President Wellbirth Nongtdu and General Secretary James Sutnga, along with enthusiastic villagers and young footballers.
