Shillong, Jun 10: Four karatekas from the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) bagged medals at the 5th KIO Sub-Junior, Cadet & Junior National Karate Championship 2026, which was held in Dehradun recently.
AMKA sent a contingent of 41 karatekas and officials to the championship, which ran from 4th to 7th June.
Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri claimed silver in the individual kumite junior -68kg category.
The other three medals were all bronze. These were earned by Jason McRyan Malngiang (individual 13 years kata), Precious Stone Mukhim (individual kumite 13 years -55kg) and Sai-i Banmanbha S Blah (individual kumite junior -53kg). The latter was the only girl from the Meghalaya team to win a medal.
Other karatekas of the team also performed commendably during the championship, with several reaching the quarterfinals, AMKA said in a press release today.
The association also thanked the state government for financial support extended towards the team’s participation at the event.
It also appreciated the team officials and technical officials who officiated in the championship. These were coach Donboklang Lyngdoh, coach-cum-manager Pynhunlang Kharbuli, coach Ester Mary Lyngdoh and referees Na-oo Man Kiwi War Passah, Banrilang Lyngdoh Nonglait, Banteilang Pdahsiej and Albert Pyngrope.
