Shillong, Jul 14: Shillong Lajong FC have signed their first foreign player in two seasons with the arrival of Brazilian Arthur Pangaro.

The club went the whole of 2025-26 with an all-domestic squad, mainly for financial reasons. That didn’t hurt SLFC at all as they finished second in the Indian Football League, their best-ever result.

Perhaps aiming to go one step further, while also recognising that the competition this year may be fiercer, Lajong have signed Arthur, a left-footed defender.

The 26-year-old arrives to strengthen the club’s defence, which has a couple of gaps after the departures of Saveme Tariang and Rudra Ved.

Arthur has played all of his professional football up to this point in Brazil. Lajong used a core group of four Brazilians in 2023-24 and 2024-25 but Arthur is currently the club’s only foreigner for 2026-27.

“Arthur has developed through Brazilian football and brings strength, composure and aerial presence to the Reds,” SLFC said on social media yesterday.

Lajong are currently preparing for the Durand Cup 2026 and they will play their opening match on 31st July. They were semifinalists two years running in 2024 and 2025.
