Shillong, Apr 11: The Indian Olympic Association has formed a coordination and games technical conduct committee for the 2022 National Games, which Meghalaya is scheduled to hold.
One of the duties of this committee will be to officially notify what sports disciplines will be featured in the Games.
The committee is chaired by Raj Kumar Sacheti, who was special adviser for the 2016 South Asian Games (which Shillong co-hosted along with Guwahati) and India’s deputy chef de mission for the 2018 Asian Games. That last appointment saw him cause a bit of controversy after he flew back from Indonesia in business class while India’s athletes flew economy. However, Sacheti said that he had used his own wherewithal to get an upgrade. He is currently an associate joint secretary of the IOA.
The others on the committee are Surinder Mohan Bali (IOA joint secretary), Vikram Singh Sisodia (IOA joint secretary), Onkar Singh (IOA joint secretary), Madhu Kant Pathak (IOA associate joint secretary), DV Seetharama Rao (IOA joint secretary), Malav Shroff (IOA athletes commission representative), Tapan Das, Rupak Debroy (IOA executive council member), Firoz Ansari and Sunil Elangbam.
The Meghalaya State Olympic Association will also nominate one member to the committee.
