Shillong, Sep 28: Meghalaya will host the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship in January 2022, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said today.
It was in February when the Table Tennis Federation of India had had made a brief announcement that Shillong will host the next edition of the table tennis nationals. This was reiterated by Sangma in the Meghalaya Assembly the following month.
The idea is that the sporting event would help Meghalaya commemorate its 50th year of statehood. Meghalaya Day is on 21st January annually.
Shillong has already had experience of hosting major table tennis events, such as the South Asian Games in 2016 and South Asian Federation Junior Table Tennis Championship in 2012. Both events took place at the JN Indoor Stadium, Polo.
Today, on social media, the Chief Minister said that he had had a conversation with the Deputy CM of Haryana, Dushyant Chautala, who is also the President of the Table Tennis Federation of India, and the latter had assured Sangma that Meghalaya will get to host the nationals in January.
