Junior Girls’ National Football C’ship 2024: Meghalaya score late goals to beat MP

Shillong, Aug 5: Meghalaya left it late but came through 2-1 against Madhya Pradesh in Group D of the Junior Girls’ National Football Championship (Tier 2) in Belgaum, Karnataka, today.

Lalita had put MP in front in the 26th minute and her team held on to that one goal advantage for nearly an hour before Bonifilia Shullai (84′) equalised, with Eiladki Ksoo (90’+3) finding the winner in stoppage time.

Meghalaya thus finished second in Group D with 3 points after having lost to Sikkim on Saturday. There were only three teams in the group after Sports Authority of India withdrew prior to the start.

Only one team from each of the four groups will progress to the semifinals. Sikkim had beaten MP on Thursday, meaning that, with their win over Meghalaya, they secured promotion to the semis.
