Shillong, Apr 8: Meghalaya were pipped in their Santosh Trophy final round Group A opener by Delhi 1-0 in Ludhiana, Punjab, today.

Delhi bagged the lone goal in under 20 minutes and Meghalaya failed to find a constructive attack that would lead to an equaliser.

In the second half Meghalaya earned a penalty, but the Delhi goalkeeper guessed correctly and kept the low ball out with a dive to his right.

Meanwhile, in the other Group A game Goa and Services played out a 1-1 draw, which means that Delhi take provisional first place with three points.

Meghalaya will next be involved against Odisha on 10th April at the same venue. It will be Odisha’s first match.
