Shillong, Oct 2: The Langsning juggernaut continued to roll in the Shillong Premier League today with the reigning champions defeating Nangkiew Irat 4-1 at the SSA Stadium.
Nangkiew had a couple of early good chances but it was Langsning that claimed the lead in the 16th minute when Kitboklang Pale slotted the ball into the net at the near post.
Langsning, who beat Nangkiew 3-0 in the first leg, then went on to double their lead when Pale, who was already in the box, tapped the ball towards Ebormi Buam, who was rushing in from outside the Nangkiew area, and the No. 10 struck a powerful shot high to the right of opposing goalkeeper Maitshaphrang Kharumnuid in the 43rd minute.
The second half saw Langsning extend their lead after a bad foul in the box on Figo Syndai by Geoffrey Massar. Fullmoon Mukhim then scored from the spot in the 56th minute.
Pale would go on to assist in another Langsning goal, this time turning provider for Donborlang Nongkynrih after the No. 17 made a swift move up the right flank. Instead of taking the shot himself Pale flicked it towards Nongkynrih, who was unmarked, and the the latter scored from inside the box.
Roikhihbha Nongtdu missed a couple of chances for Nangkiew in the second half. The first came after Langsning sloppily lost the ball in the opposition half and Nongtdu made a great run on his own to meet a long ball. His effort was blocked by Langsning goalkie Frolicson Dkhar, however. His second attempt later on then went over the crossbar.
If there was anything amiss with Langsning’s game it was that they conceded plenty of fouls – 16 in all. This finally went against them when Barmanroy Nongsiej scored from a free-kick, with his shot hitting the crossbar and then bouncing down over the line.
Langsning continue to remain at the top of the points table. They now have 24 points from 10 games. Nangkiew are in fifth with nine points from 11 outings.
