Shillong, Jul 22: Meghalaya sought to spur interest in the Tokyo Olympics, which will be formally opened on Friday, with Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh inaugurating a ‘selfie stand’ in the city today.
The selfie stand was set up at the initiative of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, of which Lyngdoh is ex officio president, at Khyndailad.
MSOA Working President John F Kharshiing, General Secretary Chiranjib Choudhury and Director of Sports & Youth Affairs Wanrilin Booth were also present for the inauguration.
This was followed by another function at the JN Stadium where Lyngdoh also inaugurated a selfie stand prepared by his department.
The purpose of this selfie stands is to urge the citizens of Meghalaya to join the country in the “I #Cheer4India” campaign and back the 127 Indian Olympic athletes competing among the best in 18 disciplines and to allow youths, athletes and citizens of Meghalaya to express their support for the @WeAreTeamIndia campaign through the selfie stands.
The MSOA has also announced a lottery with a cash prize for the three winners and requested the citizens to send their selfie pictures taken at the selfie stand via WhatsApp to +91 7005304227.
