Shillong, Oct 30: After some of the top golfers sat out the last couple of events of the 2021 Indian Golf Union’s Eastern India Amateur Golf Feeder Tour, many will be back in action on Saturday as the only feeder tour golf event in the North East, and the largest in terms of participation, the Shillong Amateur Open 2021 tees off.
Samridh Sen, Armaan Parikh, Rahul Batra and Sukanta Mondal are among the most notable names in the field who will be gunning for this coveted amateur title. The number of mid-amateur and senior golfers registered for this event has surpassed all previous records once again, proving that the event is well and truly on its way to becoming a grand success. Other than the five regular categories – amateur, mid-amateur, senior, super senior and ladies – a new category for junior golfers has been added.
The picturesque Shillong Golf Course, one of the top courses in the North East region, will play host to the Shillong Amateur Open 2021 where scoring is expected to be at a premium. The practice round and juniors tournament were held on Friday, which will be followed by the main tournament rounds on 30th and 31st October.
Yesterday’s junior event turned into a nerve jangling classic in the Over-9 Category 1 and Under-8 Category 2. In the end, in Category 1, Da I Paya Dkhar and Shivaal Agarwal came out on top, scoring the same score of 52 in nine holes, while the rest of the seven golfers in the category were declared second runners-up. The winner between the two will be decided today by a playoff. In Category 2, Aryan Bajaj fired a 35 in four holes to clinch the title with Sharanya Bajaj finishing second with 42.
