Shillong, Jul 8: The East Jaintia Hills district level Subroto Cup 2023 concluded today, with the champions of the three categories grabbing the honours at Dienchynrum, Khliehriat.
In the U-14 boys’ final, KB Memorial Secondary School of Wapung defeated Chiehruphi SS 3-1 via a tiebreaker to emerge as the winners.
The U-17 girls’ final saw Khliehriat Higher Secondary School edge Lotus SS of Dienchynrum 1-0 and the U-17 boys’ title match saw Rymbai Presbyterian HSS defeat Wapung HSS 2-1.
All three schools will now represent East Jaintia Hills at the state level Subroto Cup, which will be held in Shillong.
Awards were also given out to the Best Player of the tournament – Bisterly Ksih of Rymbai Presbyterian won this award in the U-17 boys category, Filicia Sympli of Khliehriat HSS in the U-17 girls and Lyonel Ryngkhlem of KB Memorial in the U-14 boys.
The final day of the tournament was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, A Baranwal, as the chief guest and Halen Nongtdu, captain of the U-20 Indian national football team, as the special guest.
Others who were present included Rymbai-Khliehriat MDC F Bareh, District Sports Officer Stephanie Rapsang, East Jaintia Hills District Sports Association General Secretary C Tlang and East Jaintia Hills District Football Association Working President J Sutnga.
