Shillong, Jul 14: The Meghalaya Gymnastics Association is in the process of introducing rhythmic gymnastics in the state.
Four state gymnasts – Iwamarbud Nongkynrih, Larihun Rosamystica, Paleihun Malngiang and Agnes Lyngdoh – participated in the first coaching camp in the North East for rhythmic gymnastics from 2nd to 10th July in Nagaon, organised by the Assam Gymnastics Association.
The Meghalaya contingent were judged Best Disciplined team there.
The MGA has championed and wowed spectators and audiences with artistic gymnastics up to this point, which features floor exercise, the vault, uneven bars, rings, parallel bars, etc.
Rhythmic gymnastics, on the other hand, combines gymnastics, dance and calisthenics while utilising hoops, balls, clubs, ribbons and rope. At the international level, rhythmic gymnastics is a women-only sport.
