Shillong, Oct 2: Mawryngkneng SC and Umpling SC will face off in the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today. Kick-off is slated for 2:30PM.
Mawryngkneng came out of Group A, which had six teams compared to the five in the other groups. Out of five round robin matches, Mawryngkneng won four and drew once. They then won the quarterfinal against Lumparing SC and then the semifinal against Mawpat.
In all, Mawryngkneng have scored 15 goals and conceded four and they’ve been able to maintain clean sheets in both knockout matches.
On the other hand, Umpling were in Group C where they finished as the top team based on goals scored after head-to-head and goal difference couldn’t separate the best three clubs.
They were under enormous pressure in both the quarterfinals and semifinals as they were chasing Sanmer SC and Tynring SC respectively but managed to win in the end. That should give Umpling’s players a great deal of morale but they’ve also been leaky at the back, conceding nine goals while scoring 15.
