Shillong, Dec 14: Nangbah Mulang SC defeated Demthring SC 1-0 in the final of the West Jaintia District Sports Association’s Super Division 2024 in at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Jowai today.
The only goal of the title match was scored by Timmy Ryngkhlem (12′).
As champions, Nangbah Mulang were presented with a trophy and cheque of Rs 1 lakh by Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla.
Timmy was named Player of the Match and his team mate, Niponghi Sumer received the Top Scorer award for netting nine goals.
The Player of the Tournament was Wadshwa Lato of Demthring, while Ialamlang Biam of Ladthadlaboh SC was declared Best Goalkeeper. Each of the individual awardees received Rs 5,000.
As runners-up, Demthring received Rs 50,000 in prize money.
Besides Shylla, other dignitaries present on the occasion included West Jaintia Hills District Sports Officer Khroobok Passah and Lakhon Dkhar MDC.
Nangbah Mulang had been the strongest team in the league stage of the Super Division as they finished with six wins and one draw in the eight-club top flight.
However, in the playoffs (which follow the Page Playoff system that is used, for example, in the Indian Premier League), Nangbah Mulang lost 1-0 to Demthring in Qualifier 1. They then had to win Qualifier 2 against Ladthadlaboh, which they did easily enough, 3-0. They were then able to exact revenge on Demthring in today’s final.
