Shillong, Feb 16: Mawten SC defeated Lion King CC by three wickets in the first semifinal of the 5th Mawten Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament 2025 yesterday.
A thrilling match began with Lion King winning the toss and batting first but their decision went against them as they were only able to muster 102/9 in 20 overs. Wanshynshar Nongsiej top-scored with 31 but, otherwise, their batting line-up collapsed early, with Banteilang Lyngdoh and Kishan Lyngdoh taking three wickets each to restrict scoring.
In reply, Mawten won with 4 overs to spare but, even so, lost seven wickets while chasing the low target. Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva and Kishan performed well with the bat, scoring 26 and 19 runs respectively. Benny Lyngdoh and Amiangshu Sen claimed two wickets each for Lion King but it wasn’t enough to stop Mawten from winning.
Kishan’s (pictured) all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Mawten SC will now wait for the result of the second semifinal between Royal Challenger Mawsynram and Nongstoin United to find out who they’ll face in the final on 26th February.
