Shillong, May 4: Mawsynram cluster and Sohra cluster won the girls’ and boys’ titles respectively in the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s Inter-School-cum-Cluster Cricket Tournament 2025 finals yesterday.
Mawsynram defeated Pongtung cluster by 45 runs in the girls’ final while Sohra A cluster beat Pongtung by four wickets in the boys’ match. The boys’ tournament is played for the Benjamin Diengdoh Memorial Trophy. The two finals had originally been scheduled for 23rd April but had to be postponed due to bad weather on that day. The tournament began on 11th April.
Mawsynram batted first on winning the toss and posted 106/3 in 20 overs, Eliza Lyngdoh shone bright with a top score of 58 from 46 deliveries, while Saramanbha Khongsit took 2/20 in 3 overs for the bowling side.
In reply, Pongtung were restricted to 61/4 in 20 overs. Eliza snatched 2/9 in 3 overs and was judged the Player of the Final as well as Player of the Tournament for her brilliant display. Some of her other notable performances over the course of the competition saw her take 9/10 and strike 55 against Pongtung while also hitting 61 against Sohra.
Meanwhile, Pongtung were runners-up in the boys’ division as well. They won the the toss and batted first against Sohra A but were dismissed for just 49 in 20 overs, with a top score of 21 from 27 balls by Mewanshailang Khongmawloh. Pynshngain Sohkhlet claimed 4/8 in 3 overs for the bowling team.
Sohra A then just needed 12.1 overs to complete the chase, though they did lose six wickets in the process. Dathew Sohkhlet’s 12 from 27 balls was the top score, while Jebenti Lyngdoh took 2/11 in 3 overs in a losing cause.
For his bowling exploits in the first innings Pynshngain was named Player of the Final. Mewanshailang of Pongtung was the Player of the Tournament.
