Shillong, Aug 18: Meghalaya will play their first match of the 64th Subroto Cup’s U-17 girls’ category on 20th August in New Delhi.
Meghalaya, represented by Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School, have been drawn in Pool D with International Schools Sports Organisation (ISSO), Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (DNHDD).
The tournament begins on Tuesday but the Pool D teams will not be in action until the following day. Meghalaya will take on ISSO bright and early at 6:15AM. Indeed, all of Meghalaya’s three pool games will begin at this time.
The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs had a small send-off for the team on 14th August in Shillong. The 16-member squad is being led by Jeffrey Warlarpih as coach.
Nongjri Presbyterian became state champions last month when they defeated Tyrsad Higher Secondary School 2-1 in the Meghalaya finals.
There are 31 teams in the girls’ category this year, split among seven pools of four and one of three. Only the top team from each pool will progress to the quarterfinals, which will all be held on 24th August. The semifinals follow the next day, with the final on 28th August.
