Shillong, Sep 26: Sawmer pulled off a hugely significant 3-0 victory over Mylliem in the Shillong Premier League 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Michaelson Kurbah (38′, 54′) and Khainkupar Iawphniaw (77′) were the scorers for Sawmer, now on 9 points, who moved from eighth to fourth place with this win. Mylliem, on the other hand, remain in the relegation zone in ninth spot on 5 points.
The game was slow to begin with as each side sought to probe the other’s weaknesses while not wanting to risk conceding.
Alem Khongwir had a chance in the ninth minute but dragged a shot wide of the Sawmer goalpost. Then, at the other end of the pitch, Sawmer’s Khrawkupar Tamu, though completely unmarked, headed a corner well wide.
Michaelson struck a shot wide in the 37th minute but soon made up for that with a simple tap-in following an assist from Bickyson Kharkongor 60 seconds later.
In the second half he scored his brace at the far post after a good cross from the left flank by Banman Roy Nongsiej. Khainkupar, who has really proven to be a key impact substitute this season, got Sawmer’s third with a shot from the edge of the box later on, putting the match well and truly beyond doubt. This was his fourth goal of the season, putting him third in the race for the Top Scorer award behind Nangkiew Irat’s Himanshu Patil and Mawlai’s Loving Suting, who both have five goals each to their credit.
Mylliem fans must be wondering what has gone awry with their club. From a promising start to the season, they have now lost their way a little; this was their second consecutive defeat and they have now gone more than 225 minutes without scoring. For Sawmer, this was a second win in a row and second clean sheet – this time under new goalkeeper Jeffrey G Jyrwa.
As tomorrow will be given over to the final of the SSA’s Second Division 2025, there will be no SPL 2025 match until Monday when Malki face Nangkiew Irat at 4:30PM.
