Shillong, Sep 27: The final of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2025 will be held today between Mylliem Lum and Laitkyrhong. Kick-off at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, will be at 4PM.
By reaching the final both clubs have already secured promotion to next season’s First Division.
Mylliem Lum have been the standout team this year, winning all six matches they’ve played. They began in Group A, winning against Jongksha 2-1, Lumshyiap 7-2, Umpling 4-0 and Mawpat 2-0. They then took care of Sohryngkham 1-0 in the quarterfinal round before going up against Mawryngkneng in the first semifinal where they won 5-1.
That last win was marred somewhat by spectators having a go at each other during and after the match.
Laitkyrhong, on the other hand, were the top team in Group B but haven’t quite had the winning streak of Mylliem Lum. They won twice – against Umphyrnai 2-1 and Nongmensong 6-0 – but drew with Marbisu and Smit, with both games ending 1-1. They had no problems in the knockout rounds, though, defeating Tynring 3-0 in the quarterfinals before packing off Mawpat 2-0 in the semis.
Their biggest challenge in the final will likely be trying to keep Shaitborlang Kharkrang quiet. The Mylliem Lum player has scored in five games and has also produced one of the two hat-tricks scored this season. His tally of 8 goals (by TSR’s count) is the highest in the league this year.
