Shillong, Mar 19: Shillong Lajong will play their first away match of the Indian Football League 2025-26 today in Aizawl against newly-promoted Chanmari FC. Kick-off will be at 4PM.

Lajong have 4 points from a draw, a win and a loss, the last most recently. Chanmari, meanwhile, have 5 points from a win and two draws. Being unbeaten in their debut season after three rounds is impressive but they probably might have aimed for more given that all three games were at home.

Nevertheless, they will look to make home advantage count in the first North East derby of the season.

Only yesterday they announced that they have signed a new player, Agyemang Badu, a centre back from Ghana. That is in addition to a couple of Brazilians – Marlon De Almeida Rangel and Joao Vitor De Paula Morais (known as TchĂȘ TchĂȘ) – and Kyle Degelman. The latter hasn’t been seen in action yet.

Otherwise Chanmari are in a similar position to Lajong – local coach and local players dominate their roster.

Lajong have seen plenty of North East clubs come and go in the IFL (or I-League as it was known before) and won’t want to lose to the newcomers. Whether they have the firepower and mental fortitude to succeed away from home will be the real test.
