Shillong, Sep 9: Feisty bottom side Mylliem and title challengers Shillong Lajong engaged in a rollicking 3-3 draw in the Shillong Premier League 2026 at the SSA Stadium here today.
Both sides held the lead but had to split points in the end. Iohborlang L Lyngkhoi (7′), Lalmuansanga (65′) and Deibormame Tongper (76′) were Lajong’s scorers while Wanpynshngain Nongsteng (25′), Shaibor Nongrum (52′) and Istarbor Marngar (70′) found the mark for Mylliem.
This was the first point for Mylliem this season after four consecutive defeats and it was also the first match in which Lajong have conceded in SPL 2026.
Istarbor was involved in the first real action of the match but not in the way he would have wanted. He committed a foul on Freddy B Jyrwa just outside the Mylliem box and Iohborlang delivered a free-kick over the wall and the ball went in off the upright.
Lajong had several chances after that but did not make them count. Instead, Mylliem earned a corner, taken by Remark Kharmalki, which Wanpynshngain flicked into the net with a sharp header. This was the first goal Lajong had conceded in 300 minutes of SPL 2026.
SLFC were perhaps guilty of some complacency as Mylliem have not had a good season at all up until today. Lajong could have had the lead again 10 minutes later but Mylliem goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh put in a good save to deny Colinsalmon Lyngdoh. Lajong would then go on to put the ball into the net in the 44th minute but Lalmuansanga was found to be offside.
Mylliem started the second half aggressively and it was their turn to hold the lead as Shaibor smashed in a left-footer in the 52nd minute.
While Wanpynshngain and veteran Milancy Khongstia worked overtime in Mylliem’s defence and performed well overall, there were moments when Lajong were able to work their way through the back line, such as when the unmarked Lalmuansanga headed in a cross from the right flank to make it 2-2.
Just a few minutes later, however, Istarbor fired a shot from distance that curled in the air before dipping over Lajong goalkeeper Banshanskhem Kharsyntiew. The final goal was by Deibormame, who flicked in another cross on the run.
Mylliem still preferred a win and kept throwing bodies forward but had to settle for a point after an exhausting 90 minutes. Although still at the bottom of the standings, having their first point and making Lajong sweat might just be the impetus Mylliem need to turn their season around.
For Lajong, they move to the top of the table, now on 11 points, but Mawlai are just one point behind with a match in hand.
Tomorrow, ninth-placed Rangdajied United will face eighth-placed Laitkor at 3:30PM.
