Shillong, Sep 19: Sohiong SC inflicted a first defeat of the season on Smit SC in Group A of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Sohiong won 1-0 with the sole goal scored by Albert Malngiang in the 18th minute.
Earlier, also in Group A, Imson SC picked up their first point in a 2-2 draw with Umphrup SC.
Imson took the lead via Amosly Nongbri (14′) in the first half but Umphrup equalised early in the second through Nangpynkhraw Kshiar (51′) before going in front thanks to Fredy Kharbangar (81′).
However, just when it looked like they would be able to celebrate their first victory, Arju L Marshillong (90’+3) equalised for Imson in stoppage time.
Smit had won both of their matches before today and are in second place on 6 points. Sohiong are now fourth with 4 points, while Imson are at the bottom with 1. Umphrup are just above them with 2 points.
