Shillong, Mar 20: East Garo Hills started their Meghalaya Cricket Association U-14 Inter District Tournament with a one-run victory over Tura in Mendipathar today, while West Khasi Hills picked up their second win on the trot.
EGH were made to bat first after Tura won the toss and scored an admirable 150/6 in 20 overs, with Priyankshu Das and Jeristho R Marak scoring 27 and 25 respectively. Abirim K Marak claimed 2/15 for the bowling side.
Tura then got as close as they could but still fell just short of victory, being restricted to 149/9, despite the batting efforts of Agatchu Chitai (39) and Abirim (20). The latter, however, was named player-of-the-match for his all-round effort. Jeristho and Liam Chigarik finished with exactly the same figures, of 2/25.
In the earlier game, WKH batted first after winning the toss and posted 125/8 in their 20 overs. Preshanbor Khoksi top-scored with 37 while Ananda Berma scalped 2/12 for South Garo Hills in an economical four overs.
Player-of-the-match Damewanpynkhraw Marbaniang (pictured right) then helped skittle SGH for 83 with figures of 3/15 as WKH won by 42 runs. This was despite Ananda’s rapid 22, made off just 12 deliveries.
