Shillong, Oct 18: Seven games were held today on the first day of the 1st Veteran Basketball Championship, organised by the East Khasi Hills District Basketball Association, at St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School here.
Iaineh, Nongrim Hills (pictured) and Madanrting were victorious in their first games in the men’s category and, in the women’s category, Splash and SYM got their first wins too.
The most interesting game of the evening was that between Nongrim Hills and Nongstoin Ballers, where both the teams fought it out till the last minute. The neck and neck match was concluded as Pleasantly Synnah and Sunny Pathaw of Nongrim Hills showed their national experience, which led their team to a four-point win against the Nongstoin Ballers. John Fisher of Nongstoin scored 19 points but fell short in the final seconds of the game.
The tournament was inaugurated by Fr Anthony, the Principal of St Anthony’s HSS. Other dignitaries present were East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer Honour O Mawthoh and Meghalaya Basketball Association General Secretary Donald Wahlang.

Women’s results:
SYM (Dari Pathaw 10 pts) beat Promising SC (P Dkhar 5 pts) 33-10, Splash (B Lyngdoh 6 pts) beat Lawsohtun Marvels 19-2.
