Shillong, Oct 6: Rangdajied United and Langsning played out a goalless draw in the second leg of the Shillong Premier League at the SSA Stadium here today.
Of late Rangdajied have struggled to make a real impact on the field, but today was very different as they lifted their game against the defending champions. Langsning came out stronger in the second half, but still couldn’t find away through the Rangdajied defence or past their goalkeeper Padam Chettri.
The last time these two teams met was on 30th August and that game also ended in a draw – 1-1.
Langsning’s best chance today was arguably in the 34th minute when a Rangdajied defender made a bit of an error when trying to give the ball to Chettri. Kitboklang Pale stole in and took a shot, but the goalie made a sharp save to his right.
At the other end Frolicson Dkhar also had a good day between the sticks. In the 51st minute he denied Raikutshisha Buam and 10 minutes later he put in a good save to block out Reson Malngiang’s attempt on goal.
Chettri’s only mistake almost led to a goal in the 84th minute. He spilled a ball he was trying to collect, which allowed Ebormi Buam to take a shot, but the Langsning No. 10 blazed the ball over the crossbar from close range.
Langsning would surely be disappointed at not winning today. Victory would have confirmed that they end the league stage of the SPL in first place. As it happens they now have 25 points from 11 games, while Rangdajied are on 19 from 11.
On Monday at 4PM the two bottom-placed teams, Nangkiew Irat and Sawmer, will face off. It will be Nangkiew’s final league match.
