Shillong, Jun 10: Smit continued on their upwards trajectory with a 1-0 victory over Mawkhar in the U-18 Shillong Premier League at Third Ground, Polo, today.
Despite being reduced to 10 players during the first half Smit demonstrated the characteristic grit that we’ve come to expect from them and held off Mawkhar, who seemed a little out of sorts today.
A handball in the Mawkhar box gave Smit the ultimate opening and Kerboklang Nongspung (pictured No. 4) made no mistake from the spot in the 75th minute to score the only goal.
Their third win in four games lifts Smit all the way to provisional second place from sixth, displacing Mawkhar to third. Both sides have 10 points each now. Smit, though, have played more matches than any other team at six.
Mawkhar, who have now played five, failed to score for the first time this season and also conceded a goal for the first time in four outings.
Tomorrow ninth-placed Laban are scheduled to take on bottom side Ryntih at 3:45PM.
