Shillong, Jun 13: Defending champions Langsning experienced their first defeat of the U-18 Shillong Premier League season with a 1-0 loss to Shillong Lajong at Third Ground, Polo, today.

Lajong captain Dajied Wanshnong scored the solitary goal in the 34th minute.

This result leaves Lajong as the only unbeaten team in the competition. They are also the only remaining club yet to have been scored against.

The second half of the game was almost entirely played in SLFC’s side of the pitch as Langsning tried to find an equaliser. However, it was Lajong who almost doubled their lead but Glennys Lynrah somehow missed an open goal soon after the restart.

Tremiki Lamurong twice threatened to score for Langsning from free-kicks close to the Lajong box, but on the first occasion his attempt struck the crossbar and the second, in stoppage time, was blocked by Lajong goalkeeper Urbanity Makhroh.

Langsning goalie Deranius Wahlang also demonstrated some good saving skills, palming over a well-taken free-kick from Gladdy Kharbuli, which Wahlang conceded after fouling Lynrah just outside the box.

Langsning still have a hold of top spot in the standings with 12 points after five matches, but there are now three teams on 10 – Mawkhar (five games), Lajong (four) and Smit (six).

Tomorrow Rangdajied United are scheduled to take on bottom side Lawsohtun at 1PM.
