Shillong, Sep 23: After 18 months largely devoid of sporting activity due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Meghalaya Football Association will bring together 17 teams in the Meghalaya State Futsal League from 27th September.
The return of organised sports to the state will be welcomed by players and fans alike, with the action set to run until 2nd October at the Sports Authority of India facility at NEHU, Shillong. The fast-paced futsal action will see the participating sides divided into groups before the knockout stages decide who claims the ultimate glory.
The big prize for the teams, however, includes not only being heralded as the best futsal side in Meghalaya but also in securing a place in the National Futsal League, organised by the All India Football Federation, that will follow.
Covid-19 protocols as laid out by the state government and AIFF will be strictly adhered to in order to have a safe and successful tournament.
Speaking of the upcoming competition, President of the Meghalaya Football Association, Larsing Ming Sawyan, said, “The MFA is excited at being able to host the first state-level sporting event in Meghalaya for many months. Players, fans, officials, everyone must be looking forward to getting sports back and the athletes have been training hard in preparation. Our thanks go to the AIFF, the government of Meghalaya, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills’ office and all others who have helped make this event possible.”
