Shillong, Apr 23: Shillong Cricket Association (A) and Tura District CA won their respective matches of the Inter District U-19 Boys Cricket Tournament today.
In Jowai, SCA (A) defeated East Khasi Hills by a comfortable eight wickets, while TDCA were more narrow three-wicket victors over North Garo Hills in Tura.
The Zone 1 Group A match saw EKH win the toss and make 101/9 in a maximum of 32 overs. Number 9 Jonathan Mawa top-scored with 21 not out while player-of-the-match Naveen Kumar Yadav (pictured right) took 3/17 and Charm Marbaniang 3/21 returned the best figures.
Avinash Rai then led the way in the chase with a run-a-ball unbeaten 40 with Mrinal Das swatting 28 not out off 13 balls as SCA (A) reached the target for the loss of only two wickets in 13 overs.
In the Zone 2 contest, TDCA won the toss and opted to field first. Player-of-the-match Denikcheng Marak (left) bowled an excellent spell of 4.4 overs for 3/3, while Harshit Prasad took 3/14. Burney Kerauzik Marak also bagged 2/15 as NGH were skittled for 72 in 22.4 overs.
Tura did lose as many as seven wickets in the chase but the target was small enough that this did not cause them too much trouble. Rohit Sah steadied the side with his unbeaten 27, which carried the team to victory. Kasagrikku Ch Momin was the pick of the NGH bowlers with 2/15.
On Monday, SCA (B) will face Ri-Bhoi in Zone 1’s Group A, while South Garo Hills will be up against East Garo Hills in Zone 2.
