Shillong, May 11: Maw-U-Tieng defeated Nongthymmai 5-1 in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match, in Group A, was a walkover for Laitkor against Thynroit. As a result, Laitkor were awarded a 3-0 win and 3 points to take them to provisional first place in the group with 10 points to Mawlai’s 7, though the latter have a game in hand. Thynroit are at the bottom of Group A.
Maw-U-Tieng took a 2-0 lead through Phibashisha Lyngdoh (11′) and Joytiful Narlong (20′) before Nongthymmai got their first goal of the season via Iaphisha Marbaniang (22′).
Just a minute later, Eliva Kurkalang (23′, 56′) scored the first of her two goals today, while Antisha Maring (60′) added the last at the end of the hour-long match.
Maw-U-Tieng now have 7 points from four games and are second in Group B. They are tied with Lawei on points, but the latter have head-to-head advantage and one game in hand.
