Shillong, Nov 12: At the end of Day 2 of the four-day golf event at the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022, Meghalaya have taken a commanding lead over the other seven states.
Its best Team Scorecard (best 4 scores) of 622 is 10 strokes ahead of its nearest competitor, Assam.
In the individual categories too, Meghalaya leads in five out of the eight categories.
While Jason Passah and Jonathan Iawphniaw (pictured from Day 1) of Meghalaya have established a clear lead of 3 strokes in the Amateur Category over Assam, Dr KI Singh and Anil Pargal of Meghalaya lead in the Mid Amateur and Super Seniors Categories while Deben Bhumij of Assam leads in the Professional Category and Snigdha Goswami of Assam leads in the Ladies Category. Gaurav Bajaj and Benu Malakar of Meghalaya are in second place in the Mid-Amateur and Senior Categories respectively.
The tournament, being played at the Shillong Golf Course and conducted by the Meghalaya Golf Promoters’ Society (MGPS), is heading into an exciting finish in the last two days of the tournament, Saturday and Sunday.
This is the first time that golf as a discipline has been included in the North East Olympic Games and Meghalaya has the unique distinction of hosting such an event.
