Shillong, Mar 17: Ri-Bhoi District Cricket Association and East Garo Hills District Cricket Association gained the upper hand on the first day of their respective matches in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-15 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2023 today.
Hosts EGH chose to field first in Zone 2 after winning the toss against North Garo Hills District Cricket Association but the first day was marred by rain.
Aizerian Ch Momin claimed 4/8 as EGH dismissed NGH for just 40 runs in 24.4 overs but a mere 5 overs were possible to play in EGH’s first innings as rain forced an early end to play. EGH were at 5/0 when the bad weather set in.
Over in Zone 1, hosts Ri-Bhoi won the toss and opted to bat first, making 177 all out in their first innings, to which Shillong Cricket Association-B replied with 104 all out.
Sanjay Sawkuta top-scored with 61 from 40 deliveries, while Pynshai Timung made 40 from a more patient 113 balls. Abhijit Chanda (3/42) and Joseph Mathew (3/43) were the bowlers with the best figures.
In response, Aditya Singh hit 40 and Aryan K Rai 31 in SCA-B’s innings. All six bowlers used by Ri-Bhoi took a wicket each, with Benedict Jones Makdoh taking 4/20, as SCA-B were dismissed still 73 runs behind Ri-Bhoi’s first innings total.
