Shillong, Jun 11: The Meghalaya Football Association’s first Youth Leagues for U-14 and U-16 boys will begin on 20th July, it was decided on Saturday.
The qualifiers for the fourth edition of the Meghalaya State League will also likely begin next month, that is if the state government gives the nod in terms of agreeing to sponsor the league. The MSL 4 proper would then commence in August.
There was also news about the MFA’s planned Women’s League, whose inaugural edition could begin towards the end of this calendar year, MFA General Secretary Sunesh Syiem and Vice-President Cliff Nongrum informed.
The MFA’s executive committee sat on Saturday where these tournaments were discussed.
Age screening for the Youth Leagues concluded last month. Uniquely for the MFA, this statewide tournament will not be held between clubs but between affiliated district associations, 20 of which are to take part in the inaugural edition.
The Women’s League will also be contested between the district associations, probably in October or November.
