Shillong, Jun 27: Thynroit SC began the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 with an absolutely massive 8-1 victory against Mawreng SC at First Ground, Polo, here today.
This was the opening match of the SSA’s 2024 season and most of the senior office bearers were present on the occasion, including new association President Banteidor Lyngdoh MLA.
Seven different players scored for Thynroit – Carrick Nongrum (56′, 58′) produced a brace and his other team mates to score were Lastingson Lawai (13′), Silvestar Warlarpih (15′), Arphrangstone Warlarpih (30′), Cleofast Ksiar (66′), Johnly Kharsahnoh (67′) and Fairly Nongspung (70′).
John R Nongkhlaw (62′) managed to get Mawreng’s consolation goal, if we can call it that.
Matches in the Fourth Division are of 70 minutes’ duration. This year teams can sign a maximum of five players above 20 years old in their 25-member squads, though only three can feature in the starting XI. The two top teams from each of the six groups plus the four best third-placed sides will qualify for the pre-quarterfinals.
