Shillong, Jul 30: Police informed today that traffic restrictions will be in place around the JN Sports Complex in Polo on Friday for the launch of the Shillong leg of the Durand Cup 2024 matches.
The JN Stadium is expected to be inundated with VIPs from the state government, armed forces, not to mention the two teams, spectators, etc, for the opening match. The game, between Shillong Lajong FC and Tribhuvan Army FC of Nepal is scheduled to start at 4PM, with the inauguration ceremony beginning at 2PM. The launch of the tournament at other venues this year has seen marching bands, dancers and other entertainers involved.
Traffic restrictions will be imposed from 1PM on the day until the function concludes. There will be no entry for vehicles from the Lumjingshai junction towards the Central Reserve Police Force junction and no entry from Lumjingshai junction to Forest Colony either. Instead, vehicles will be diverted towards the Lawmali-Polo Market road.
The public has also been requested not to park their vehicles in the Polo area from 11AM on the day until the event is over. Specifically, vehicles will not be allowed to park on the roadside between Golf Links up to the CRPF junction.
Loaded vehicles will be “strictly prohibited” from the Polo area on Friday and the general public attending the match have been advised to use share taxis or carpool to reduce traffic congestion.
