Shillong, Oct 9: Nongkseh SC defeated Umphyrnai SC 4-1 in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match of the day saw Mawtawar SC defeat Nongrah SC 2-1.
Nongkseh were set to play in this season’s Second Division after gaining promotion from 2023’s Third Division but fast-forwarded their way into the First Division after the SSA auctioned off a vacant slot.
They have roped in none other than experienced I-League player Chesterpaul Lyngdoh to lead them in their campaign and he scored a brace today in the 36th and 81st minute after team mates Meban Marsharing (14′) and Samphrangshai Rani (34′) got the ball rolling for Nongkseh.
Umphyrnai’s lone goal was through Diverjohn Syiemlieh (45’+3).
Later, after a goalless first half, Mawtawar got their noses in front via Fedrick Lyngdoh (52′) and then doubled their lead through an own goal from a Nongrah player. Mebankit Lyngdoh (90’+1) then scored Nongrah’s only goal of the contest.
