Shillong, Jul 15: Mawkasiang became the first team in the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2025 to win five games in a row, though they had to dig deep to overcome a deficit in order to beat Lummawbah 2-1 in Pool 3 of the second round at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here.

The other match of the day saw Laitkroh also come from behind to defeat Mawphlang 3-2 in Pool 4, thereby ending the latter’s four-game victory streak.

Rishan Muktieh (5′) got Lummawbah in front soon after kick-off in the 80-minute match but Hame-dao Nongtdu (25′) equalised in the first half, while Kyrmenskhem Mukhim (45′) put Mawkasiang ahead in the second session.

Mawkasiang qualified for the second round as the top team from Group C, while Lummawbah were second in Group B.

Later, tournament top scorer Phasdonlang Hynniewta (11′, 80’+5) struck a brace but Mawphlang ended up on the losing side for the first time this season. Rishailang Myrthong (37′, 38′) produced a double for Laitkroh, while John Edelbert Mawniuh (66′) scored his side’s third goal.

Laitkroh were second in Group A, while Mawphlang topped Group D.

Incidentally, Mawkasiang are the only one of the top teams from the first round to have won in the four second round matches we’ve had so far.
