Shillong, Mar 11: United XI defeated Lawsohtun CC by five wickets in Group C of the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.
The other match, between Sporting CC and Mawsyiem CC in Group A, was abandoned due to rain.
Fresh from winning their opening match, Lawsohtun elected to bat first after winning the toss but could only manage 110/8 in a reduced 18 overs. Aaron Lamare (27 from 27 balls) and Manchester Pathaw (26 from 35) contributed the most runs, while Bijon Dey (2/13 in 4 overs) and Navin Kumar Ray (2/24 in 4) were the most successful bowlers.
United XI then chased down the target in 17.4 overs for the loss of five wickets. Ganeshstar Syiem led the way with 39 from 18 deliveries, while Yogesh Tiwari made 35 from 45. Deibormi Rngad claimed 2/18 in 4 overs and Greatestful Lyngkhoi 2/32 in 4.
Navin, who also made 17 not out with the bat to go along with his two wickets, was declared Player of the Match.
The second fixture saw Mawsyiem reach 71/6 in 17.3 overs before rain forced the game to be abandoned. This was the second match of the tournament to be washed out and both have involved Sporting CC.
