Shillong, Jul 24: The most junior of state karatekas displayed their developing talents on the second day of the 32nd State Level Inter School Karate Tournament 2026 at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall at the Sports Authority of India centre on the NEHU Shillong campus here today.
The three-day tournament is organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) with the support of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Nearly 400 karatekas in the 6-10 age group from around the state competed against each other in kumite (sparring) and kata (demonstration) events, supported by friends and family in the gallery. This is around half of the record total of 802 youngsters who have registered for the championship.
Many of Meghalaya’s best senior karatekas started their journey at the very junior levels and AMKA’s dedication to the youth is a very real demonstration of the maxim “Catch them young”.
Tomorrow will be the final day, with the last bouts and closing ceremony to take place in the evening.
