Shillong, Apr 27: Boys from the Pearly Dew Higher Secondary School (pictured above) and the Sacred Heart Girls School team won their respective trophies at the Inter-School Invitational Basketball Tournament here today.

The tournament was held on the occasion of Pearly Dew’s annual founder’s day, celebrated as National Integration Day. The finals of the three-day basketball tournament as well as other activities were held on the school grounds in the Jaiaw Laitdom neighbourhood.

In the girls’ trophy match Sacred Heart Girls were almost completely dominant, beating Pearly Dew 27-6.

Later on, Pearly Dew got their own back by winning the boys title against Sacred Heart Boys School by 70 points to 39.

Sacred Heart were trailing 28-15 at the end of the first half but seemed to get some scoring momentum going early in the second half, but then tired towards the end as the eventual champions scored almost at will.

The other schools to take part were St Edmund’s, Mawlai Presbyterian, Seng Khasi School, Christian Academy and Mawkhar Christian School.

Mawlai Presbyterian took third place in the girls’ competition, while St Edmund’s did the same in the boys’.
